Isipathana Returns To The Scene Of a Crime

Isipathana College will have both their pride and a conscience to safeguard and salvage when they meet the bubbly Science College team as they contest the Milo inter-school knock-out rugby final at a venue that will bring back memories of a hurtful League decider against Royal College which cost them the title last month.


Isipathana Beat Trinity 37 - 28

Isipathana College withstood a fierce second half rally by Trinity College, Kandy to win by 37 points (3 Goals, 2 Tries, 2 Penalties) to 28 (2 Goals, 1 Try, 3 Penalties) in their Milo Trophy Schools Knockout Semi finals worked off at the Royal College Sports Complex in Reid Avenue yesterday. Winners led 27-14 at the breather.After being outplayed in the first half, Trinity had better exchanges in the second half, in which they scored tries through their skipper Isuru Rangala and Sanushka Abeywickrama. Both were converted by full back Sanushka Abeywickrama, but the lead conceded in the first half was way too much for them to catch up.

Referees Union Chief Makes Blind Side Move

Reports have emerged that the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Union has notified Isipathana College that their Head Coach, Nilfer Ibrahim will be handed a one match touch line ban after he had alleged to have  expressed his displeasure of the performance of Referee Aruna Rankothge during the crucial Royal vs Isipathana fixture which was won by Royal College a fortnight ago. The ban means Ibrahim would not be able to enter the playing field for the important semi final against Trinity College.


Royal Beat Isipathana

Royal College, Colombo, clinched the rugby double - wining the Division 1 Under 20 Schools Rugby Singer League and the Major Milroy Fernando trophy, when they beat unbeaten Isipathana College comprehensively by 21points ( 3 Tries, 2 Penalties ) to 8 ( 1 Try, 1 Penalty) at the Royal Sports Complex in Reid Avenue, yesterday. Winners led 16 points to 8 at half time. The match got off to a rousing start, with both teams engaged in a hectic battle for supremacy and in the seventh minute of the game, Royal received a penalty for an off side play by an Isipathana player and Royal 16 -year- old, fullback, Ovin Askey put over a superb 40 metre penalty, to give Royal a 3 nil lead.
