Milo Under-16 Schools Rugby Tournament Kicks Off Today

Milo Inter-School Under-16 ten-a-side (‘A’ division) rugby tournament will be kicked off in Kandy today with the participation of 29 schools.Trinity College, Kandy who emerged champions of the Under-18 tournament which concluded earlier this month, has been drafted into Group ‘E’ where they would battle it out with Ananda College,


Sri Lanka Field Strong Team At Asian 7s Series

Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) selectors on Saturday (29) named the final squad of the National Under-20 7s that will represent the country at the Asian 7s Series which begins in Hong Kong next Friday (4).  Sri Lanka, led by former S. Thomas' College skipper and high-flying three-quarter Naveen Henakankanamge, is slotted under Pool 'A' alongside Malaysia, Taipei, China and the Philippines.  Under Henakankanamge, Sri Lanka fields a strong team of 12 players, who has had continuous exposure of back to back high-profile 7s competitions held soon after the Schools Under-20 tournament. Sri Lanka are the defending series champs but according to Head Coach Sudath Sampath, the pressure of retaining the title has been taken off from the heads of the players.


Indika Wins Sri Lanka’s Only Gold

Kapila Team Manager For the 18th Time

Former Isipathana, Kandy Sports Club and Sri Lanka ruggerite Dilhan Kapila Silva, better known as Kapila will continue as the team manager of Kandy Sports Club. Kapila was educated at Isipathana College, where he represented the first fifteen rugby team in 1995, '96 and '97 as a second rower and flank forward, and straight from school he moved to CH and FC and played for them in 1997. The following year he joined CR and FC and played for two years – 1998/99. Then in 2000, when Kandy SC celebrated their 125th year, he joined the Nittawela club and played as a top class forward till 2008. He also represented the country both at 7's and 15's as a fine intelligent forward. From 2009 to-date he is the champion Kandy Sports Club team's rugby manager.
