Ladies College Water Polo Coach Banned

Former Sri Lanka double junior international Bilal Hassen, who is presently the coach of the Ladies College Water Polo team has been suspended for two years by Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) for disciplinary reasons, a SLASU spokesman told “Daily Mirror” yesterday.

Former star Royal College sportsman who represented Sri Lanka both in Rugby and Water Polo had allegedly abused the referee S. Bamunuarachchi using obscene language in full view of the public, following the recent National Water Polo Championships final between Ladies College and Visakha College, the spokesman added.

“After considering the complaint made by Bamunuarachchi, SLASU interim committee decided unanimously to ban Hassen for two years,” he said.

He however revealed that no inquiry was held prior to the decision. “We felt there is no need for an inquiry as it happened in full view of the SLASU interim committee members and the public,” he said.
