Royal College paceman Chamika Karunaratne has been selected as the captain of the Sri Lanka Under-19 squad picked for the forthcoming Under-19 series against touring Australia Under-19. St. Peter’s Create History By Winning Swimming Title

St. Peter’s College swimmers created history in the All Island National Schools Swimming Championship by winning the Overall Championship for the first time in the history of All Island National Schools swimming Championship. The brilliant Peterite swimmer Akalanka Peiris was crowned as the Overall Champion Swimmer.

Akalanka Peiris in the Under-15 age category clinched the first place in the 100M Free Style event, 50M Back Stroke event, 50M Dolphin event and in the 200M Individual Medley event. By virtue of his achievements Akalanka was crowned as the Overall Champion Swimmer. The Peterite swimmers all in all collected 33 points. By virtue of the points gathered from the championship, St. Peter’s College won their first ever National Swimming title.

Rev. Fr. Trevor Martin the Rector of St. Peter’s College and Sports Coordinator Rev. Fr. Sharm Dassanayake were highly appreciative of the Peterite swimmers on their historic and splendid achievement. They also thanked the Sports Secretary Troy Bartlet, Master in Charge Jude Denzil Fernando, Assistant Teacher in Charge Sujeewa Dias, the Coaches Mahi Chadralal, Upul Wijithasiri and Rajindra Perera for bringing glory and honour to St. Peter’s College.

 

Eric Miller To Coach Trinity Ruggerites This Year

British and Irish 'Lion' player Eric Roger Patrick Miller has arrived to take charge of Trinity College Rugby as their new Consultant Head Coach, replacing outgoing coach Neil Foote. Coach Miller will take over his new assignment on Monday. The Juniors will be handled by that famous Samoan Laga Tavitala, who played for CR and FC, Kandy Sports Club and later coached both the clubs and also Havelock SC and Sri Lanka. Last year's under 18 coach Thusitha de Silva an old boy will be the local coach of the first XV. The new coach is ready to commence practice after the school re-opens for the third term. Eric Roger Patrick Miller, born September 23, 1975 and is the former Irish Rugby Union and Gaelic football player.

S. Thomas’ Milo U-13 Rugby Champs

Under-13 rugby players from S. Thomas’ College pose with their trophy after winning the Milo rugby carnival at the Royal Sports Complex ground yesterday. The junior Thomians beat Science College 7-0, St. Sylvester’s College 28-0, Wesley College 14-0, Zahira College 7-0 and Isipathana College 21-14 before laying their hands on the prize.

Royal Win Under - 16 Rugby Championship

A very well organized Royal outfit overcame a fighting Isipathana team 12-5 to win the All Island Schools Under-16 rugby tournament worked off at Bogambara yesterday. In doing so, Royal put paid to Isipathana’s hopes of making a clean sweep of the age group rugby titles.
