Isipathana Outclass S. Thomas’ in 41-21 Victory

Isipathana College, Colombo outplayed S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia 41-21 in their inter-school ‘A’ division league rugby match which came to an end at Havelock Park, Colombo yesterday.The winners collected their points through seven tries and three conversions while Thomians only managed three tries and three conversions. Isipathana opened scoring through fly-half Randy Silva who found himself some space down the left flank after receiving the ball from scrum half Harith Bandara before going over, but full back Chamod Fernanodo failed to make the conversion. S. Thomas’ were brought back to the game by the forward Adisha Handunpathirana

who crossed the white wash through a rolling maul and scrum half Dion Dias added extra points. However, Isipathana made sure they gain a healthy lead before half time as Silva touched down once more while Fernando also contributed with a try and the latter made two conversions to make it 19-7 at half time.

They started the second half brightly when second row S. Dissanayake was able to score a try after collecting the ball from captain Sumudu Rankothge and conversion was poor from Fernando.

Thomians then scored their second try of the match when A. Cader went over the line to make it 26-14 with Dias’ conversion. 

Isipathana extended their lead when wing three quarter Janithy Shehan scored an unconverted try although Fernando could not add extra points. S. Thomas’ captain Naveen Henakankanamge gave some hope for his side when he crossed the white wash in the 64th minute and Dias was once again spot on with his conversion.

Isipathana added two crucial tries in the latter stages with Chamod Fernando and R. Anjula scoring a try each to win 41-21.
